I was born and grew up in Dijon, France. Dijon is a small, beautiful town mostly famous for its wine and mustard.
Since I was a child, I wanted to speak English.
I was therefore eager to start my first lessons in 6th grade. But
learning a language requires patience and love. Throughout my learning,
I visited the United States several times in order to feel more comfortable
with the language and the people. Specifically, I spent a year in St Paul,
MN as an aupair. I took care of three boys, and, believe me, my English
improved quickly.
Now, English is a part of me.
What about reading?
Until I was about nineteen years old, I despised reading. Because
I did not read much, my writing was extremely poor -I would write the way
that I spoke. But one day I realized that there are many beautiful stories
out there. Progressively, I started to read more books. As my interest
for books grew, my writing skills improved. It is therefore important to
read. I often hear "But I don't have
time to read!" Reading
does not always mean spending hours in front of a William Faulkner's novel.
It also means reading the newspaper or a magazine while having breakfast,
riding the metro or the bus, or waiting for someone. Spending even a few
minutes a day is better than none at all. Read
for your own pleasure! This is how you
will improve your writing skills.
