AN ONLINE READING AND WRITING LAB


       Hours and Resources  

Hours:  The lab is usually open Monday - Friday from 9 AM - 5 PM, depending upon the availability of staff. Occasionally the lab will be reserved for special sessions such as lab orientations or workshops.  At these times, a notice will be placed on the door.

Call us at 202-274-6176 to confirm our hours or to make appointments.

Resources:  We have 14 Dell computers, running on a Windows NT operating system, equipped with word processing software (Corel, MS Word) and access to the Internet through Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator.  Our computers are connected to printers, but we request that you bring your own paper and other supplies.  We have installed the following educational software on all our computers:

Electronic Handbook
Bedford Interactive Software


In addition to our computer resources, we have a loaning library of textbooks, readers, literary anthologies, grammar handbooks, workbooks, and novels, as well as traditional instructional worksheets.  We have a reserve shelf of dictionaries (including the Oxford English Dictionary), thesauri, and a small encyclopedia.  Also, we have a workbook series of tapes and readers, Reading the Content Fields (Jamestown Publishers), as well as several tape recorders.

For professional development for both tutors and faculty, in our tutor lounge we have a book shelf of professional journals and books on the topics of reading and writing, as well as a television and a VCR.
